SA WET LAB FOR CICO COURSE
This one-day course provides a comprehensive training package that aims to give delegates the knowledge, skills and confidence to manage the Can’t Intubate, Can’t Oxygenate (CICO) scenario. Though targeted at anaesthetists of all grades, it will be of value to clinicians from any critical or emergency care background.
A structured approach is used, consisting of pre-course reading and assessment, progressing to lectures, discussion and dry-lab skills training. The course culminates with operating theatre sessions in which delegates are immersed in realistic CICO scenarios. The format is unique in South Australia, and is based on the long-standing Royal Perth Hospital Wet Lab course.
The course is held at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute. The medical faculty are all experienced and certified CICO instructors.

We encourage clinicians who are actively managing airways as part of their clinical duties to attend. The places are accredited for the ANZCA and ACRRM CPD (College of Emergency Medicine pending). While the course is targeted at Anaesthetists, the skills and knowledge will be valuable to all airway practioners from Critical Care to Emergency Medicine, Retrieval medicine and beyond.
Minimum Training Level requirements for attendance
Trainee in Anaesthesia, ED, critical Care, GP Anaesthesia or Rural Medicine
Completed 6 Months of training (Completed introductory training)
Airway Assistants - Observership
We welcome applications for observer positions from all airway assistants, including Anaesthetic Nurses, Anaesthetic Techs, ED Nurses, Retrieval Nurses and Paramedical collegues. The observer places are targeted at staff that are reguarly engaged in the provison of airway assistance as apart of their normal clinical duties. CICO SA Wet Lab Course - INSTRUCTOR COURSE
This one-day course provides candidates with the knowledge and skills required to teach other clinicians how to manage the Can’t Intubate, Can’t Oxygenate (CICO) scenario. Though targeted at anaesthetists of all grades, it will be of value to practitioners from any critical or emergency care background. Candidates must have a minimum experience level of ATY2 (4th year of training).
The course is rigorous, and includes summative assessment. Successful candidates will meet the required standard and pass all aspects of the course.
This format is unique in South Australia, and is based on the long-standing Royal Perth Hospital CICO Rescue Instructor Certification Course.
If candidates wish to join the SA Wet Lab for CICO Course Faculty, they will also need to book onto a provider course as an instructor candidate, in order to shadow experienced faculty members. An instructor candidate course space can be booked at any of our courses after you have attended the instructor course attendees - please inform us if you would not wish to take up this place.
